About

Hewats’ office is located in Castle Douglas, part of what is still known locally as the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright in Galloway, South West Scotland.

Company History

Based in Castle Douglas in part of what is known locally as ‘the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright’, Hewats is one of the longest established legal practices in Dumfries and Galloway.

At Hewats, we provide a full range of legal services which, when combined with our widespread local knowledge, means we are able to deliver efficient and effective advice specific to each individual case and our clients’ needs. As well as providing value for money, we strive to offer the best guidance in a friendly, helpful and practical manner.

We have a skilled team of four lawyers who each cover a range of work, from agricultural law to powers of attorney, and all of whom are registered with the Law Society of Scotland,

As well as a full range of legal services, at Hewats we also manage a successful property department, offering an extensive range of estate agency services across Dumfries and Galloway. Our committed property team can advise and assist selling, letting and purchasing clients throughout the process.

Providing our clients with a complete solution for their legal or property needs is our main aim, but if specialist knowledge is required along the way, we have a range of contacts in relevant firms across Scotland and the UK.

Location

South West Scotland is a spectacular part of the country, often overlooked by visitors. Served by the A75 trunk road from Gretna in the East to Stranraer in the West, Dumfries and Galloway is also home to the busy ferry port of Cairnryan, providing fantastic transport links to Northern Ireland.

Despite its apparent remoteness, we are only a 2 hours drive of both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and just over an hour from Carlisle in the South.

With a population of just 148,000 in one of the UK’s largest local authorities by area, Dumfries and Galloway is a rural region that relies on agriculture as one of its main industries. At Hewats, we’re well aware of the issues that face people in rural communities, and we work hard to ensure that we’re supporting local people wherever possible.

"Lisa was always helpful and friendly. She was prompt with feedback and answers. Kay and David was very helpful in guiding us through the different processes of property purchasing. It was an easy, stress free experience that probably could have been very different was it not for the lovely people at Hewats Castle Douglas."
