Newton Stewart is a former burgh town in the historical county of Wigtownshire and is situated on the River Cree with the majority of the town to the west of the river and is sometimes referred to as the “Gateway to the Galloway Hills”.

From Castle Douglas take the A75 to Stranraer. At the Wigton roundabout continue to follow the signs for the A75 to Stranraer, past newton Stewart hospital, which is situated on the left-hand side of the road. follow the road for approx a mile and just before the layby take the turning on the left that runs up past Knockbrex toll cottage. Continue up the hill past East Knockbrex farm. Take the 2nd turning on the right. Go past the entrance to Drumterlie House and take the right fork in the road and follow the road round for approximately 100 yards, passing the garages on the right -hand side.
